According to a new federal report during the recent year’s suicide and homicide rates have increased among young people in the U.S.
According to the new report of the Center for Disease Control and Prevention the rate of suicide among the people aging 10 to 24 years has increased by 56% between the years 2007 to 2017. Within the last 10 years, the annual rate of young people dying has increased. The suicide rate of young people was only 3% per year from 2007 to 2013 but between the years 2013 to 2017 the rate has increased by up to 7% each year.
After years of decline, the suicide rate among the children aging 10 to 14 years has tripled in the years 2007 to 2017. In the same period, the rate has increased to 76% for teens between 15 to 19 years. The second leading cause of death among young people is suicides, who were aged between 10 to 24 years in the year 2017.
According to Gen Z or the American generation who were born during 1997 and onwards might be passing through mental health the pressure which might be worst compared to the older millennial generation.
Since in the year, 2014 millennial generation people aging between 23 to 38 years in 2019 has 47% of major depression diagnosis. Dying from alcohol, drugs, and suicide, this was increased among the millennial population during the last 10 years, as the cause was due to feelings of loneliness.
In the year 2017, 13% of the teens reported they were passing through a position of a depressive episode during the past years.
The social media might be inflaming the cause of mental illness. The Anxiety and Depression Association of America reported overuse of social media can lead to loneliness, anxiety, and depression among teenagers.
